party

If you plan to party in Hungary, there are several options to choose from!
First of all, there are great bars in Budapest, so whether it is Winter or Summertime, there's plenty of places to choose from. Please check the categories on the right side, and whatever is listed under Budapest nightlife, it is absolutely recommended to visit!
In the Summertime, there are various festivals that take place in Hungary and are worth visiting. As these festivals usually take place at about the same time of  each year, I try to give you a quick summary about all of them.

So let the party begin!

FESTIVAL IN BUDAPEST:

Best of Hungary festival Sziget
SZIGET FESTIVAL

The most famous and biggest one is definitely the Sziget Festival that usually takes place in the middle of August. The first Sziget Festival was held in 1993 mainly for students from Hungary, and it has grown into one of the biggest festivals in Europe. The great thing about it that it takes place in an island (sziget means island in Hungarian), and people usually sleep in tents. Obviously as years have passed it became so crowded that a lot of people now have to find accomodation either around the island or in the center of Budapest. So if you would like to attend this festival, it's worth planning ahead, as tickets and accomodations go fast and get more and more expensive. Public transportation is great between the city center and the island, and Budapest actually turns into a big Sziget melting pot for the one week period of the festival. It's even more fun to be around at that time of the year in Budapest - if you like party people.

FESTIVALS OUTSIDE BUDAPEST:

Best of Hungary festival Balaton Sound
MASTERCARD BALATONSOUND

Another amazing festival is the Balaton Sound that actually takes place at Lake Balaton in Zamárdi every year in the middle of July. If you like swimming, sunbathing and mostly mainstream electronic music then this place is for you! This festival became also so popular that you might want to get your tickets fast, and make sure that you either have a spot for your tent or find a good accomodation at nearby hotels. It is also very common that people who live in the area let their apartments or rooms for those who attend the festival.

Best of Hungary festival Volt
VOLT FESTIVAL

The VOLT Festival takes place in the beginning of every July in Sopron, which is a beautiful city near the Austrian-Hungarian border. Trains go there frequently from Budapest. It is also an open-air festival, so get your tent ready. This festival can also get very crowded but you should be able to find a spot for your tent. Unless you would like to stay in a hotel or a private accomodation nearby.
